DOCUMENTED HISTORY
ORIGINS
I. Egleston Square and the "Conscious Young" Years
Catch Wreck — in civilian life Jesse Winfrey, per his own Teaching Artist bio at the URBANO Project, a Boston youth arts organization based in the Jamaica Plain/Roxbury area — is from Egleston Square, in Roxbury, Boston. Before adopting the name he's known by today, he wrote for years under the alias "Conscious Young," and developed his voice in spoken word poetry during his teenage years at Cloud Foundation, a Boston-area organization, per that same URBANO bio.
At thirteen, he recorded one of his earliest songs at Public Enemy's Chuck D's studio on Long Island, alongside artist Kyle Jason — a session documented by Grassroots Grind around the later release of Origins Volume 1, where that track ("2 Cents 4 Non-Sense," credited to "Kyle Jason ft. Catch Wreck FKA Conscious Young") appears as an archival recording.
2009
II. 2009 — Violence Transformed and Recognition in the Boston Scene
Violence Transformed, his debut EP, was released October 13, 2009 — eight tracks consistently cited by Bandcamp, the URBANO Project, and Grassroots Grind as his first recorded hip hop project. That same year, Catch Wreck appears as an interview subject in "617 Live," a 22-episode Boston documentary series (per a flyer dated 10.20.09), alongside other figures already verified in ERA617's own archive — Lou Armstrong, Brujo, Stizzy B, Jolgie "El Arkitecto," Johnny Cupcakes, DJ Abuelito and DJ Tunes, among others — placing him as an already-recognized figure in Boston culture by that year's end.
2010–2011
III. 2010–2011 — The Young & The Restless, ADHD, and Sweatshop
On May 18, 2010, he releases The Young & The Restless, his second release: twenty-one tracks blending finished songs with freestyles and free downloads, including a freestyle originally recorded in 2008 for radio station JAM'N 94.5. ADHD follows on May 1, 2011, explicitly confirmed as his "third release" by Hip Hop Is Read's May 11, 2011 coverage, produced in part by Rah Intelligence and Guerillapino.
In July 2011 — running alongside his solo catalog — Catch Wreck serves as vocalist and lyricist for Sweatshop, a Boston punk/rock band that releases its debut EP on July 15 of that year, recorded at The Bridge Sound and Stage in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It's a distinct project from his hip hop catalog, not part of his "solo releases" count.
2011
IV. December 2011 — Collective Consciousness
Collective Consciousness, his fourth release, comes out December 21, 2011, recorded across Cybersound Studios, The Bridge Sound & Stage, and what the album's own notes call "Catch's Room." Written and performed by Catch Wreck throughout except "Spliff Lifta," co-written with his fellow Cool Collective Reps members, Retrospek (A. Spendacash and JuneLyfe, with production from Rah Intelligence) — a single Word Is Bond premiered on December 17, 2011, four days ahead of the full album. Overall production comes from Illy Sav, Blizz Cartel, Rah Intelligence, and Evilldewer (credited on the release as "Evill Dewer").
2013
V. 2013 — XXL, "The Grinder," and Scope Urban Apparel
In August 2013, XXL Magazine names him in "The New New: 15 Boston Rappers You Should Know," describing him as a deep-voiced "Boston hip-hop purist" and noting his range across references to The Beatles and Nas on Collective Consciousness. On September 5, 2013, he's the inaugural subject of "The Grinder," a web interview series produced by Fly Syndicate, Scope Urban Apparel, and Grassroots Grind, where he's billed as "Scope Gang / CCR Artist" and as Marketing Director at Scope Urban Apparel — a documented business role, distinct from his activity as a recording artist. A later episode of the same series shows him connecting with activist-rapper Jasiri X after a presentation at the Dudley Square Library in Roxbury.
2014
VI. 2014 — Origins Volume 1, 4 the People, and "Revised"
On February 25, 2014, he releases Origins Volume 1, a retrospective compilation of unreleased and remastered material from his first four projects, billed as "the first installment of a two-part series" — no evidence was found that a Volume 2 ever materialized. On June 3, 2014, 4 the People finally arrives — a four-track EP under the joint billing "Catch Wreck x Rah Intelligence," presented by Cool Collective Reps and Scope Music — originally recorded in 2012 and shelved after an unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign. Per Bandcamp's own catalog ordering, it's his most recent dated release. That December, the official video for "Revised" (featuring JuneLyfe), directed by Rene Dongo, is posted.
CURRENT STATUS
VII. After 2014 — from Recorded Catalog to Community Work
No evidence was found of any new Catch Wreck release, single, or video between 2015 and the present (October 2026). That doesn't mean Jesse Winfrey disappeared: under his real name, he continued documented community work in Roxbury at least through 2016, when he co-led "The Flip," a URBANO Project youth arts residency in Egleston Square, alongside the same Rene Dongo who had directed his 2011 and 2014 videos. As of this research date (October 2026), Jesse Winfrey still appears on URBANO Project's current Teaching Artists roster. The available record documents, on those facts, an artist who stopped verifiably releasing music after 2014 and continued his creative work, under his given name, in Boston's community arts.

CREDITS ARCHIVE
Collaborations
Cool Collective Reps (CCR) · CREW
Boston hip hop crew Catch Wreck is a documented member of — it presented his 4 the People EP (2014) alongside Scope Music, and his own interviews bill him as "Scope Gang / CCR Artist."
Retrospek · COLLABORATING GROUP
Boston group made up of MCs A. Spendacash and JuneLyfe and producer Rah Intelligence; collaborated with Catch Wreck on "Spliff Lifta" (Collective Consciousness, 2011). JuneLyfe appears again as a solo feature on "Revised" (2014).
Rah Intelligence · PRODUCER
Retrospek's own producer, who worked directly with Catch Wreck across multiple projects: "1Tyme4UrMynd" (ADHD, 2011), "Spliff Lifta" (Collective Consciousness, 2011), and as co-credited producer on the entirety of the 4 the People EP ("Catch Wreck x Rah Intelligence," 2012/2014).
Illy Sav · PRODUCER AND FEATURED ARTIST
Credited as "Illiam Savant" in a featured-artist capacity on Violence Transformed (2009), The Young & The Restless (2010), and ADHD (2011), and as "Illy Sav" in a producer capacity on Collective Consciousness (2011) and Origins Volume 1 (2014). The dossier treats both names as the same person based on shared context (same scene, overlapping projects, same name root) — a reasonable inference, not confirmed by any single explicit source.
Evilldewer · PRODUCER
Credited on the Collective Consciousness (2011) artwork as "Evill Dewer," part of the production team alongside Illy Sav, Blizz Cartel, and Rah Intelligence. May be the same Boston producer "EvillDewer" (Speak No Evil Recordings, active 2018-2020) given the unusual shared spelling and Boston base, but no source explicitly links the two credits — treated as probable, not confirmed.
