DOCUMENTED HISTORY

ORIGINS

I. Domenic Marte and Lawrence

Domenic Marte is a singer, songwriter, and producer associated with Lawrence, Massachusetts, with roots in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The Lawrence Public Schools describe him as a Lawrence native, and CBS Boston welcomed him in 2012 to talk about his hometown, Lawrence. AllMusic describes him as a Massachusetts-based bachata singer of Dominican heritage with a light pop touch.

II. 1998–2004 — From Domenic M to the Debut Album

His personal archive holds a 1998 photograph of him signing some papers. In 2004 he releases his first album, Intimamente, under the abbreviated name Domenic M — he would use his full name from then on — which AllMusic says marked his solo debut on Sony Discos. The album comes out on September 7, 2004.

2005–2007

III. 2005–2007 — “Ven Tú” and “Deseos de Amarte”

“Ven Tú” becomes the hit that makes his name: CBS Boston recalls it in 2012 as the song that won over fans around the world in 2005, and AllMusic describes it as a Top Ten hit on Billboard's Latin Tropical Airplay chart. His singles “Ella Se Llevó Mi Vida” and “La Quiero” also register on that chart, reaching the Top 20 and Top 40. At the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Awards he is a finalist in the Tropical Airplay category for new artist. That same year he is a guest on two songs on the self-titled album by Massachusetts singer Bylli Crayone, among them “Toyfriend.” Deseos de Amarte arrives in 2007, and its title track again lands in the tropical Top Ten, per AllMusic.

2008–2015

IV. 2008–2015 — Tours, “Muero de Celos,” and The Voice

In 2012, CBS Boston interviews him about “Horóscopo” (2011) and tours that have taken him to Australia, Hawaii, Argentina, and other countries. On November 28, 2012, he posts the video for “Muero de Celos,” with Luz Rios, which passes 800,000 views on YouTube. In 2013 comes The Voice, his third album. On November 5, 2015, CBS Boston presents For the World as his first English-language bachata album, with a version of “Pretty Woman.”

2016–2018

V. 2016–2018 — “Como Quisiera” and Al Fin Libre

With Direct Balance Records as the label on his releases, he puts out “Como Quisiera” in June 2016, which reaches No. 1 on Billboard's Tropical Songs chart dated October 8 of that year — his first No. 1. On November 24 comes “No Ves Que Te Amo,” a duet with Brenda K. Starr. “Yo Quería” follows in 2017, and on February 28, 2018, the album Al Fin Libre, with guests including Brenda K. Starr and Javier Alejandro El Diamante.

2019–2023

VI. 2019–2023 — EPs, Remixes, and For You, Vol. 1

Between 2019 and 2021 he releases the EPs ¿Te Casarías Conmigo? (January 2019), Lucharé por Tu Amor (March 2020), and Contaré los Días (May 2021), as well as In My Eyes, with Stevie B, and its remixes (September and October 2020). In December 2021 he is a guest on “Química,” by Tatón y Tremendo. For You, Vol. 1 arrives on April 13, 2022, gathering singles from those years, with Stevie B, Grupo Casual Boston, Nata, and Dj Zarnoti.

VII. 2024 — Honors in Lawrence

On October 8, 2024, according to the weekly Rumbo, the city of Lawrence honored him: it dedicated the corner of Chestnut and Elm streets in his name and the mayor presented him with the symbolic Key to the City; the Eagle-Tribune covered the event. The day had begun in the Lawrence High School auditorium, before more than 300 students, teachers, and community leaders, where he received a recognition during Hispanic Heritage Month, per the Lawrence Public Schools, and performed several of his songs, among them “Ven Tú” and “Como Quisiera.” In July he had released “Cirugía de Amor.”
