BIOGRAPHY

1968–1992

I. Canton And The Start In Boston

Bill Burr was born and raised in Canton, Massachusetts, just outside Boston. He graduated from Canton High School in 1987 and went on to study broadcasting at Emerson College, in Boston, where he did his first stand-up set on March 2, 1992, at age 23.

Over the following years, Burr developed his craft on Boston's comedy club circuit — the foundation the rest of his career was built on.

II. New York And Building The Craft

In the mid-1990s, Burr relocated from Boston to New York City to continue building his stand-up career. There he spent several more years developing his act on the New York club circuit before releasing his debut album, Emotionally Unavailable, in 2003.

2006–2019

III. The National Breakthrough

His 2006 set at the Trocadero in Philadelphia, during the Opie and Anthony Show, became a defining moment in his career — widely shared and recognized as his real breakthrough to a national audience. A year later, in 2007, he launched the Monday Morning Podcast, which would go on to become one of the cornerstones of his career and his direct connection to his audience.

Between 2008 and 2019 he released a run of specials and comedy albums — Why Do I Do This?, Let It Go, You People Are All the Same, I'm Sorry You Feel That Way, Walk Your Way Out, and Paper Tiger — that cemented his direct, unfiltered stand-up style. Alongside that, he built an acting career that mattered to his comedy trajectory insofar as it widened his audience: his role in Breaking Bad and, later, his own animated series, F Is for Family, where he voices and plays the lead character, Frank Murphy.

IV. The Return To Boston — Fenway Park

On August 21, 2022, Burr became the first comedian in history to headline a show at Fenway Park, Boston, before a sold-out crowd estimated at roughly 35,000 — a full-circle moment for a comedian who had started his career just a few miles away, three decades earlier.

V. The Current Era

In 2022 he released Live at Red Rocks on Netflix, followed in 2025 by Drop Dead Years, his most recent special, which premiered on Hulu on March 14 of that year as part of the platform's "Hularious" stand-up brand. That same year, Burr made his Broadway debut as Dave Moss in a revival of Glengarry Glen Ross, at the Palace Theatre — a selected career milestone, not part of his comedy catalog.

Off stage, Burr keeps drumming as a longtime hobby — he's sat in publicly with members of The Pretenders, Primus, and Guns N' Roses — and earned his helicopter pilot's license in May 2015. He continues touring actively and releases the Monday Morning Podcast every week.
