BIOGRAPHY
I. Jamaica Plain
Before he was Lightfoot, David Bellow was a kid in Jamaica Plain listening to a neighbor make beats — the encounter that got him into music production, in middle school. The name he later took is confirmed three separate ways: by the account name on his own YouTube channel, by that channel's bio ("My name is Lightfoot and I'm a producer beat maker guy from Boston"), and by a Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation profile titled "JP and David 'Lightfoot' Bellow."
He describes Jamaica Plain itself — a neighborhood he calls culturally diverse, shaped by Puerto Rican and Latino influence — as a subconscious current in his artistic outlook.
II. The Bridge Sound & Stage
He studied at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts, a program affiliated with Boston University, before interning at The Bridge Sound & Stage, The Arcitype's recording studio in Cambridge, MA. The internship became a staff-engineer position under mentor Janos Fulop, but producing, not engineering, was where his real interest lay — and he eventually left the studio to pursue beat-making on his own.
III. Producer And DJ
AR Classic Records released his instrumental album Whipped Waves in 2017, around the same time he and Moe Pope formed Childhood Love Stories, a project whose debut album, CHLS, followed in 2018. His Bandcamp catalog adds two more releases: Day Drunk On Writing, five tracks put out on January 15, 2019, with every track produced and engineered by Lightfoot and guitar from RVRSR; and Camp 4, a 17-track project built entirely on a Teenage Engineering PO-33 and run through an original Roland SP-404.
Beyond his own catalog, he produces beats independently for TV, other artists, and ad campaigns. Over time he's come to prioritize live performance over studio work alone — "I just love being on stage... see people gravitate to the music that I'm making," in his own words.

IV. Education — Berklee
He teaches at Berklee College of Music, in the Music Technology department — confirmed both by his own NBC10 Boston feature and, independently, by a RateMyProfessors listing placing him in that department teaching a course centered on the Roland SP-404. That same practice feeds his educational writing published directly on Roland's own site, on using the SP-404 in the classroom.

V. Community — The Hip Hop Transformation
For thirteen years he has been involved with The Hip Hop Transformation, a Cambridge youth program (ages 14–18) run by the Cambridge Community Center, formally partnered with The Bridge Sound & Stage. Sources describe his role somewhat differently from one another — NBC10 describes him as co-directing the program; another source describes him as its engineer and producer — so both descriptions are documented here rather than fixing on a single title neither source states outright. Either way, the work is the same: producing and engineering music for young participants and connecting them with industry professionals.

VI. Current Era And Media
The Boston Music Awards named him Dance/Electronic Artist of the Year in 2019, after five consecutive nominations. His beats have been heard at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and at Boston Symphony Hall, where he performed an original composition alongside members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
In July 2026, NBC10 Boston featured him in its "Listen Up, Boston!" series, a feature centered on his dual identity as a DJ and a college instructor.
