BIOGRAPHY

I. Lawrence, Massachusetts

Long before the stage name, there was a kid DJing middle-school dances in Lawrence, Massachusetts, chasing the sound of DJ Premier and Funkmaster Flex's Hot 97 sets. That kid was Patrick Owen Baril, born January 23, 1982 — independently confirmed by Wikipedia, AllMusic, and his own official website — and the stage name he'd take, Statik Selektah, would carry that same ear for other people's records. At Phillips Exeter Academy he got his first taste of radio, on WPEA (1996–1998).

He returned to Massachusetts in 2000 to study audio production at the New England Institute of Art, earning his degree there — the same stretch of years in which he launched his "Spell My Name Right" mixtape series.

2003–2006

II. ShowOff

In 2003 he founded ShowOff, initially a PR and marketing firm with clients like Reebok, G-Unit Records, and Virgin Records. Three years later he turned it into a record label outright: its first release, Termanology's *Out the Gate*, launched a working relationship that's still active today.

Since 2009, he's hosted a weekly show on Shade 45, Eminem's channel on SiriusXM — an ongoing run his official YouTube channel, "Statik Selektah's Showoff Radio," documents continuously through the present.

2007–PRESENT

III. Solo Catalog And 1982

What followed was one of hip-hop's steadier album clocks: *Spell My Name Right: The Album* (2007), *Stick 2 the Script* (2008), *100 Proof: The Hangover* (2010, which reached #37 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart), *Population Control* (2011), *Extended Play* (2013), *What Goes Around* (2014), *Lucky 7* (2015), *8* (2017), and *The Balancing Act* (2020).

He wasn't working alone for all of it. In 2010 he and Termanology formed the duo 1982, whose self-titled debut spun off into *2012* (2012) and *1982: The Quarantine* (2020); in 2018 he and Millyz released the joint album *Saints & Sinners* on Showoff/Compound.

IV. Major Collaborations And 2025–2026 Activity

His list of major collaborators runs through Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs, and Bun B — gathered under the TrillStatik series — and Kota the Friend, with whom he released *Once in a Blue Moon* in December 2024. 2025 brought *A New State Of Grace* with Slaine (Brick Records), a sequel to 2011's *State of Grace* mixtape stacked with guests: Ill Bill, Paul Wall, Millyz, O.C., Masta Ace, Termanology, KXNG Crooked, Rasheed Chappell, OT The Real, and Haile Supreme.

The pace hasn't slowed heading into 2026 — *TrillStatik 5*, *ELEVATOR MUSIC*, *Machetes & Micheladas*, and the single "I'm Hot!" with Nina Sky. Behind the scenes, Reservoir Media Management has represented his publishing catalog since 2015, and he signed a management deal with Roc Nation in May 2017.
