BIOGRAPHY

I. Identity

Edo G is his most-used artist name today, with historical and platform variants equally current: Ed O.G. (the group's original title and his own Wikipedia entry), Edo G. / Edo.G (his given name on Berklee's faculty listing), and Edo. G (his active Spotify profile). His legal name, Edward Anderson, is confirmed by the faculty bio at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches; he was born November 27, 1970, per his own Twitter account — with no independent source confirming it.

He was born and raised in Roxbury, Boston, the neighborhood that names his second album, Roxbury 02119 (1993), titled after his own zip code. At fifteen, in the late 1980s, he was part of the crew F.T.I. (Fresh To Impress); in 1985 he met, in the Boston scene, the man who would later become Guru, then known as MC Keithy E.

1989–1993

II. Ed O.G. & Da Bulldogs

In 1989, the New York duo Awesome Two (Teddy Ted & Special K) helped form Ed O.G. & Da Bulldogs and produced their debut album. Life of a Kid in the Ghetto (1991) reached #166 on the Billboard 200 and #21 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart; the single "I Got to Have It" hit number one on Hot Rap Songs, and AllMusic rated the album 4 out of 5 stars. Roxbury 02119 (1993) — titled after his own zip code — reached #36 on the same chart.

Wikipedia doesn't document the rest of the group's lineup beyond Edo G; per the available sources, across both albums of this era (Mercury) he was the only real performer behind the collective name.

2001–2023

III. Solo Career

The Truth Hurts (2001) marked his solo debut after Da Bulldogs, followed by a steady series of his own albums — Wishful Thinking (2002), A Face In The Crowd (2011), Freedom (2017), We Do Good (2023), among others — alongside two long-running collaborations: My Own Worst Enemy (2004, reissued in deluxe format in 2018) with producer Pete Rock, and Arts & Entertainment (2009) with Masta Ace.

2005–2009

IV. Special Teamz And 4Peace

In 2005 he formed Special Teamz alongside Jaysaun (ex-Kreators) and Slaine (of La Coka Nostra, already documented on his own ERA617 profile). The group released The Mixtape (2005) and Stereotypez (2007, Duck Down Records), produced by Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and Marco Polo, with features from Buckshot, Sean Price, Ill Bill, Akrobatik, and Devin the Dude.

The relationship with Slaine didn't end with Special Teamz: in 2011 Edo G appeared as a guest on "Jumpin' Out the Window," from Slaine's own album A World With No Skies 2.0 — their second documented collaboration, six years after forming the group together.

That same period saw him co-found 4Peace alongside Twice Thou, DQuest, and Wyatt Jackson, a collective formed in response to youth gun violence in Boston. Their song "Start Peace" led the group to perform for over 1,000 students at a peace concert at Yale University, in May 2009.

2025–2026

V. Da Bulldogs, Today

Acting — originally recorded in 1996 and first released in 2008 under the group's name — was reissued in December 2025 by the Berlin label 90s Tapes, this time under his solo name, "Edo. G." Days later, Ed O.G. & Da Bulldogs released "Snoop" (December 2025), presented as a reunion with "all the original members" and a preview of an album, Life after the Ghetto, announced for spring 2026.

VI. Present: Berklee And Current Press

His own Instagram bio describes him as "Professor of HipHop" at Berklee College of Music, the same institution whose faculty listing confirms his legal name. In May 2025, WBUR featured him alongside artist MaceyOMaze in a profile on intergenerational collaboration in Boston hip hop; by 2026 he kept up active releases, including "How It Is" alongside King Magnetic and Tone Spliff.
