Told across two timelines — with Kat as a young woman and as an adult, played by two different actresses — the story follows the aftermath of a traumatic episode from her youth into her adult life.

Bloom was written, directed, and produced by Christopher Dolan (credited as C.W. Dolan), a filmmaker from Quincy, Massachusetts, through his production company, Beyond the Flock Media. The film was completed and copyright-registered in 2020, the year it was an Official Selection at the Boston International Film Festival and the New York Lift-Off Film Festival. In 2023, the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival gave Dolan its “Best New England Film” recognition as producer, along with nominations for Direction and for lead performance for Anita Ganesan — the recognition that now gives its name to the year most public listings of the film use.
